Newcastle United host Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Saturday evening, with Newcastle on eight points and Villa on five after six league games.
Newcastle have conceded 13 league goals, a joint division-high, and have gone 12 home league games without a clean sheet. Their last two away defeats, at Leeds United and Coventry City, both finished 4-1. Villa, who beat Fenerbahce 6-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, arrive with four wins and one draw from their last six games in all competitions, and Unai Emery is chasing his 100th Premier League win. Villa won the last league meeting at St James’ Park 2-0 in January, but Newcastle won 3-1 at Villa Park in the FA Cup a month later.

Team news
Newcastle United
Anthony Elanga, Tino Livramento, Jacob Ramsey and Ewen Jaouen are out, with Jaissle saying Elanga and Ramsey could return to partial training next week. Bazoumana Touré, who went off with a knee knock at Coventry City, is progressing well and Jaissle is hopeful he will join the group. Dan Burn is most likely too soon to start, Jaissle said, but Joelinton could be in the side. Amar Dedic and Lewis Miley are competing at right-back.
Aston Villa
Ian Maatsen (ankle), Amadou Onana (knee), Matteo Ruggeri (thigh) and Modou Keba Cisse are listed as out. George Hemmings (knee) and Brian Madjo (ankle) are doubtful, and Emery said earlier this week that both could return. Leon Goretzka, who made his debut as a substitute against Fenerbahce, is unlikely to start, with Joao Gomes expected to partner Boubacar Kamara.
Form
Newcastle United
Newcastle have won two, drawn two and lost two of their league games under Jaissle, with 4-1 defeats at Leeds and Coventry in their last two away games. They have conceded 13 goals and kept one clean sheet, a 2-0 win at Tottenham. At home they are unbeaten in five league games (W3 D2), including a 2-1 win over Hull City, but have gone 12 there without a clean sheet.
Aston Villa
Villa have taken five points from six league games (W1 D2 L3) but have won four and drawn one of their last six in all competitions. They beat Fenerbahce 6-0 on Wednesday, with Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley both scoring twice, after a 2-2 home draw with Brentford. Jackson has scored four goals in his last three appearances. Villa have won three and drawn one of their last four away games since a 4-0 defeat at Brighton on the opening weekend.
