Rafa Benitez was giving nothing away today regarding any transfer plans for his Newcastle team.
The Magpies are rumoured to be close to a deal for Miguel Almiron. The 24-year-old Atlanta United playmaker is thought to be joining the north-east club in January. However, Benitez would not be drawn on the subject when speaking to the media today.
“I don’t talk about players, but I’ve heard that someone has said we made an offer and after, we said ‘No, we didn’t make any offer’,” Benitez told the press ahead of his sides Premier League fixture against Wolves on Sunday.
“We don’t talk about players. If we make an offer, they will know, we will know and not necessarily the press will know. At the moment, there is no news and we carry on with the players that we have trying to do our best for the next game.”
It is possible that Benitez is as much in the dark as the rest of us regarding any possible deal. There doesn’t seem to be any clear process for transfers at Newcastle, currently.
Mike Ashley will have to give the go-ahead for any major spending and he is likely to take some convincing to put any funding back into the club.
