Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Joselu from Stoke City for a fee in the region of £5 million.
The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, scoring six goals in 24 appearances including a two-minute brace against Real Madrid on December 10th.
He failed to make a significant impact in a Stoke side that finished 9th in 2015. Starting 10 games, coming on twelve times as a substitute and scoring four goals.
Mark Hughes described his former player as a “technically adept forward… He’s a good technical player, he’s got good ability and I like his movement.”
It was clear on Sunday when Newcastle played Spurs that they were seriously lacking height in the attacking third. Joselu is tall, strong but as mentioned above, technical. Attributes which are sometimes seen in Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic who Benitez isn’t fond of due to his aggressive style.
I believe Joselu will likely start in games where Newcastle are on the back-foot so they can break with Joselu holding up the ball and knocking it on. However, in games where Newcastle can play their style of Football, it is likely that Gayle will still be the main-striker at Newcastle United.
How will Joselu do at Newcastle? Does this spell the end for Aleksandar Mitrovic? Leave us your thoughts down below or on twitter.
