Newcastle interested in Man United left-back

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is planning a January move for out-of-favour Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, report the Mirror.

The 22-year-old moved to Old Trafford from boyhood club Southampton for £30 million in the summer of 2014, in a deal that saw him become the world’s most expensive teenager ever at the time.

Many saw Shaw as being the long-term successor to Patrice Evra, but he has struggled for form and fitness since moving north and has only managed to make 32 appearances for the Red Devils in three seasons.

The talented youngster has fallen way down the pecking order at Old Trafford and his relationship with Jose Mourinho is strained. His United contract runs out at the end of the season, but the club have the option to extend it, and will more than likely do so, although this is nothing more than for the reason of being able to command a transfer fee for the player.

Benitez is eager to strengthen his options at full-back and wants to sign the 22-year-old on loan in January. Newcastle’s experienced manager believes Shaw still has massive potential and with a run of games can get his career back on track.

Shaw’s old club Southampton and Spurs who are managed by his former coach at St.Marys are also said to maintain an interest in the player.
