Newcastle United have confirmed the disappointing news that midfielder Sean Longstaff is likely to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury.
Having come through the Newcastle United academy, the South Shields-born midfielder has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Magpies this season, after making his debut in January.
He has since gone on to make 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals, and his recent performances have seen him shortlisted for the February Player of the Month award.
However, he was forced to withdraw during Newcastle’s 2-0 loss against West Ham at the weekend, and now looks set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering damage to his knee ligament.
“Newcastle United can confirm midfielder Sean Longstaff is likely to miss the remainder of the 2018/19 season with a knee ligament injury,” a statement on the clubs website reads.
Next up for Newcastle is a home game against 10th placed Everton.
