Antonio Conte looks almost certain to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, and today there has been a new name added to the list of potential replacements for the Italian.
Chelsea have had a diffficult season this year, and look set to finish outside the top four, despite winning the title last year in Conte’s first season in English football. The Italian has constantly whinged about not being sufficiently supported by the club in the transfer market, as well as admitting that he longs to return to Italy.
While Chelsea have so far resisted the temptation to sack Conte, it is widely expected that he will not be in charge at Stamford Bridge at the start of the next campaign.
Luis Enrique, Max Allegri, Maurizio Sarri and Diego Simeone are the current front runners to replace the beleaguered Blues boss, but the Daily Star claim that Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann is also a potential option for the Blues.
Nageslmann is one of the hottest prospects in the Bundesliga having taking Hoffenheim into the Champions League for the first time in his debut season
While they were ultimately knocked out by Liverpool in the play-offs, the 30-year-old is on course to match that achievement this season. Die Kraichgauer are guarenteed to finish fourth once again after a brilliant late run to end the campaign
The German side are currently unbeaten in nine Bundesliga matches, with seven wins and two draws, scoring 26 goals in the process.
Nagelsmann has however recently hinted that he could be ready to take the next step in his managerial career, saying “The next step in my career needs to be something special.”
Could Chelsea be about to offer him that next step?
