Gary Neville has branded some of Arsenal’s biggest stars as ‘spineless’ in the wake of their 3-0 humiliation in the Carabao Cup final.
Neville was critical of Shkodran Mustafi’s positioning for the first goal of the afternoon as Sergio Aguero out-muscled the Arsenal defender to put Man City in front.
“Mustafi has to be stronger than that,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “That is pathetic defending.”
However, the former Man Utd defender saved his most scathing criticisms for three of Arsenal’s midfielders after Man City scored two quick fire goals in 10 second half minutes to put the match out of sight.
“Ramsey. Xhaka. Ozil. You’re walking on a football pitch at Wembley. Why are you walking? You’re a disgrace. An absolute disgrace.
“I don’t even want to talk about them because they’ve been an absolute disgrace. Ramsey and Xhaka walking on a football pitch. Absolutely spineless.”
As the camera showed a tearful Arsenal fan on the television, Neville added:
“And look at that – that’s what you cause!”
“I’m struggling to come up for words now to describe this pattern for Arsenal.
“I don’t even like the football anymore. Liverpool play better, Tottenham play better – there’s three or four teams that play better football than them now
“This is a dark, dark day – the team have just not shown up.”
