Philip Neville waded in to the ‘who is the greatest of all time debate’ by nailing his colours firmly to Cristiano Ronaldo’s mast.
The former Manchester United winger was at his brilliant best on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick against former World champions Spain in their World Cup group game against Spain in Sochi, including a sensational late free kick.
Discussing Ronaldo’s performance against Spain, and his continued excellence at the top of the game, former Everton captain Phil Neville had this to say about the former Manchester United man:
“I think he plays more for the team for Portugal than he probably does at Real Madrid,” Neville told the BBC.
“You just said he has lost some of his pace, but I don’t see that.
“There is a period for about two minutes before the free kick where he is blowing, blowing his lips, breathing in, where he was concentrating. He was focussed.
“That is no accident that free kick. That is just someone who is the greatest player of all time.
“I know there has been many a great player, but for me, he is the greatest of all time, because he produces moments – even at the age of 33 – that proves that he is the best.”
