Gary Neville has boldly predicted that Manchester United will win the Premier League title before Liverpool.
Manchester United opened the new league season with a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea at Old Trafford last weekend, the performance creating optimism amongst the club’s supporters that they can improve on last season’s disappointing sixth-placed finish.
Liverpool finished as runners-up by just one point to Manchester City last season and are expected to challenge again, though former United defender Neville reckons his old side will win the title before their Merseyside rivals.
“I can guarantee you as clear as day, Manchester United will win again. They’ll probably win the league before Liverpool, in my opinion,” he said on Sky Bet’s Big Debate.
“And that’s not being disrespectful, they’ll probably win the league before Liverpool.”
Champions Manchester City and Tottenham have broken their transfer-records this summer as they continue to strengthen, though Neville says he is unconcerned by the improvement of United’s rivals and is confident the club will challenge again.
“It genuinely does not concern me because it can be corrected by a little bit of money on the stadium and good decisions in the boardroom and good decisions in the recruitment department.
“What I’m saying is, Liverpool, City, Tottenham, all these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25 or 30 years at times.
“So United are going through one at the moment.
“Eventually they will stumble upon the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people, they’ll get a great manager – hopefully that’s Ole – and they’ll start to win again. That’s going to happen.”
