Neuer not set for Premier League transfer despite reports

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is not in talks with any Premier League club despite reports.

Neuer’s deal with the German champions is set to expire at the end of the season with no agreement reached on an extension.

The 41-year-old continues to perform at a top level, with reports this week suggesting Premier League clubs were keen to sign the veteran, if he does not extend at Bayern and chooses to continue his career.

Chelsea and Newcastle United are among the English teams expected to sign new goalkeepers in the summer transfer window.

However, Fabrizio Romano has reported that there have been no negotiations between Neuer and Premier League teams. The transfer insider said his full focus is on the current campaign before he makes a decision on his future this summer.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany last week praised Neuer after a man-of-the-match performance against Real Madrid. The German goalkeeper made nine saves at the Bernabeu as Bayern secured a 2-1 win in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

“It wasn’t just experience, it was quality. He was very agile, which he only manages because he does so much for his body during the week. He makes it look so easy,” Kompany said.

“You see these saves, which all look so safe, but they’re difficult moments for a goalkeeper. We needed that, and we’ll need those moments again in the coming weeks.”
