Nemanja Matic’s departure from Chelsea has taken a step closer after Roman Abromovic intervened.
The Serbian has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Juventus, and most strongly to Manchester United, with the midfielder thought to be keen on reuniting with United manager Jose Mourinho with whom he worked under at Chelsea just several months ago.
United have been trying to get their business concluded for a matter of weeks, with Mourinho publicly declaring his frustration with the slow progress.
Chelsea were thought to be unwilling to do business with the Old Trafford club after the Reds stole Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of the Blues. However, Russian billionaire Roman Anromovic has stepped into proceedings to get the deal moving.
Matic has been excluded from Chelsea’s preseason tour of the Far East and has now been given permission by the Chelsea owner himself to speak to Manchester United as a transfer is finally seeming to be edging towards a conclusion.
It is thought that the final fee to take Matic to Manchester will be between £40m-£50m.
