Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will give some of his younger players a chance to impress next year and has denied that Manchester United will splash the cash this summer.
United have been linked with a summer spending spree as they look to close the gap to Manchester City next summer.
However, the Portuguese has said that he will only ‘invest the basic’ amount required to improve his squad:
“We are only going to invest the basic to improve our squad.
“We need to find a replacement for Michael Carrick and if Marouane Fellaini leaves, we need to find a replacement for him.
“And there is always in a squad, a player or a couple of players who are not playing a lot and will try to leave.
“So we will touch our squad and more than spend, spend, spend believe in the evolution of our players. We have some young players who need to get with both hands opportunities for their evolution.”
The news will come as boost to the likes of Tim Fosu-Mensah, Axel Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira, and Demitri Mitchell who have all spent the season (or at least part of it) on loan away from Old Trafford.
It could also prove to be a boost for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay, with Rashford and Martial having been linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
Youngsters Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes have also impressed for the clubs U23 side this season.
