Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been discussing what it is that sets Croatia winger Ivan Perisic apart from other top wingers.
The Inter Milan attacker scored and assisted a goal during his countries 2-1 extra time victory over England last night in the World Cup semi-final, and afterwards Man United boss Jose Mourinho explained that it his physicality that sets the 29-year-old apart from his peers.
“Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others,” Mourinho told Russia Today.
“Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative.
“But he is also physical, very physical. Fantastic in the air.
“So the way he wins that ball in the air [for Mandzukic’s winning goal] and puts the ball into that space is only possible if you are very, very physical and dominant over defenders.
“So he was amazing by going there and winning that ball in the air.”
Mourinho’s praise of the Inter Milan winger will come as no surprise to many, as the Portuguese coach tried to sign him last year, but United were unable to reach a deal with the Italian side.
