Mourinho reckons Messi’s ‘appetite’ will kill Liverpool’s chance of a comeback in UCL semi

Jose Mourinho believes Lionel Messi’s ‘appetite’ will kill any chance of Liverpool making a comeback in their Champions League semi-final with Barcelona.

Liverpool host the Spanish giants at Anfield on Tuesday night, looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg at the Nou Camp.

Despite Liverpool dominating for long periods, Luis Suarez and a Lionel Messi brace sealed a win for Ernesto Valverde’s side, who are in a commanding position to reach a first final since 2015.

Mourinho, who won the tournament with both Porto and Inter Milan, says Klopp’s side must believe they can recover but reckons Messi will again prove the difference.

”He [Klopp] has to think that anything is possible in football,” Mourinho told RT.

“He has to think what I know he thinks – he has a very good team. He has a real team and they are going to fight until the possible is impossible.

“When the result was 2-0, I was thinking it’s open. When they miss the late chance for the 3-1, I would say open.

“But 3-0 is 3-0, it’s hard to believe, but Barcelona have an incredibly negative experience with Roma recently.

“I know that Liverpool at Anfield is really hard, the team is good, but if Barcelona score one goal they have to concede five.

“I think it’s too much and I think the team has that appetite. Messi is dragging everyone with him with that appetite to make it happen. I think Barcelona has it.”
