Jose Mourinho lauded the performance of Luke Shaw in Manchester United’s 2-1 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow.
Despite going into the game on 12 points, United’s qualification for the last 16 was not guaranteed, but with the Manchester Derby in the horizon, the Man Utd boss made several changes to his lineup.
The biggest surprise on the team sheet was to see Luke Shaw starting the match at left wing back, after only playing for 48 minutes in total so far this season, all in the Carabao Cup.
However, after putting in some good performances in training, Mourinho gave the former Southampton defender his chance, and he grabbed it with both hands. After the game, the Portuguese boss lauded praise on the youngster, and insisted that more opportunities will come:
“Luke Shaw offensively was very good and made a great contribution to the team.
“Shaw had waited for a long time, it’s not easy to give an opportunity to a player in matches when we need results. I wanted to make changes, but Luke managed 90 minutes nd I told him it is an opportunity to increase his levels.
“He was deserving that opportunity for a long time and is going to get more because his performance was really positive.
“He had a great intensity in his game, it was no surprise that after minute 80 he was feeling the consequences of that intensity. It is normal for his first match of season.
Recent reports have suggested that Shaw will be sold in January with United demanding £20m from potential suitors.
