Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has stated that he is not surprised by the excellent start to season made by his side’s opponents this weekend, Bournemouth.
Eddie Howe’s Cherries currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table, two places and three points above United after 10 games.
United manager Mourinho believes the South Coast club are progressing well under their highly-rated coach and have made the step up from simply trying to stay in the top flight to challenging for a place in Europe.
“Not really surprised. Their story is a story that doesn’t surprise me. After promotion was the season of being a PL team and staying,’’ Mourinho told his pre-match press conference.
“Now they want more than stability and are fighting for EL position. Top four is a very difficult target. Fantastic work, great stability.”
Of course while praising Bournemouth Mourinho made sure to highlight the role played in their success by the clubs scouting network – with the Portuguese coach having been left furious at his own clubs inability to identify and sign players during the summer transfer window.
“Same manager, clinical scouting work. I wouldn’t say big surprise,” he added.
Bournemouth versus Manchester United is the opening game of the Premier League weekend and kick off at 12.30pm on Saturday at Dean Court.
