Mourinho: I am positive about my players despite Manchester Derby defeat

Man United lost 3-1 to local rivals Man City in the much anticipated Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

Jose Mourinho was more positive in his reaction to Man United‘s fourth Premier League loss of the season than might have been expected

“My first thoughts? The first is that we lost, the obvious one. The second is that we were in the game until the 80th-something minute and the third goal killed the spirit and morale of the team,” Mourinho told his post match press conference.

Mourinho admitted mistakes were made by his players during the 90 minutes, but went on later to state he has nothing negative in particular to comment upon regarding their performance.

The Portuguese also believes his side are performing far better than they had been at the beginning of this campaign.

“One thinking is a bad performance and one thing is a performance with mistakes. I think ours was a performance with mistakes. It is football and for me it is even more football when we have a week where we play three consecutive matches away and Manchester City play three consecutive games at home. Our last match against Juventus left some scars in the team.

“For me zero words against my players, everything is positive. I am with them and they are with me.

“There is a gap, Manchester City start playing from the beginning of the season at a certain level that allows them to get a lot of points. Now we are a much better team than at the beginning of the season when we lost a lot of points.”
