Jose Mourinho believes that Manchester United deserve to finish second in the Premier League having spent the majority of the season being the best of the rest behind league leaders Manchester City.
At the start of the season, it was looking like it would be a two horse race between the Manchester duo, who were matching each other stride for stride in the early weeks of the campaign.
However, while Mourinho’s men dropped the odd point here and there, Guardiola’s side carried on winning in ruthless fashion. The Cityzens have the chance to wrap the title up next week in the Manchester derby if they are able to beat United again. However, speaking after his side’s victory against Swansea, Mourinho said he isn’t bothered about City, but believes his side do deserve to be runners up:
“Manchester City is not important for me,” he said.
“Important for me is that, since the moment we left the first position and went to second, we stayed there for the whole of the season.
“We deserve to finish second in spite of what you can say, the criticisms you can make.
“You all say the third, the fourth, the fifth, the sixth are all better than us, but they are not better than us because we have more points than them.
“We are going to fight. Seven matches to go, we are going to fight to finish second.”
