Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester United are in trouble as a number of injuries and suspensions grip his squad.
Manchester United had no fewer than seven players unavailable for the New Years Day fixture against Everton. Ashley Young served the first of his three game suspension, joining Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick on the sidelines through injury.
Speaking after the game and with the transfer market now open, the United manager was asked if he will be strengthening his squad this month. While he neither confirmed nor denied, he did admit that his side were currently ‘in trouble’:
“I don’t know about transfers. In this moment we are in trouble, in 2-3 weeks time maybe we recover and we breathe in a different way.
“Can we improve now or do we wait until the summer? I cannot say.”
United have been linked with a number of players, in a variety of positions, especially in central midfield, right wing and left back.
A move for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been touted, although Mourinho could chose to wait until the summer to snap him up on a free transfer.
