Jose Mourinho has been labeled a dinosaur by former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince.
The Portuguese coach’s pragmatic tactics have often been criticised since he took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, with many fans and pundits insisting that the former Chelsea bosses approach goes against United’s attacking traditions.
While Ince insisted that he wants Mourinho to remain as Manchester United manager, he reckons the 55-year-old needs to change his tactical approach to the game as it has become outdated.
“What he has to understand is [that] the game’s evolved,” Ince told the BBC.
“It’s not about when he was at Inter Milan going in the Champions League and having to park the bus and go defensively. The philosophy and teams that he’s had have been completely different to Manchester United.
“Manchester United has a tradition of playing attacking football. Fans want to see entertaining football.
“I’d like him to stay but he has to start changing from his methods that he used years back to understand that the game’s gone forward.
“Don’t be a dinosaur and start attacking teams like we have done over the years.”
