Mourinho hits out at Martial and admits Man United are in ‘trouble’ ahead of Premier League season

Jose Mourinho has hit out at Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial, by insisting that the Frenchman should have returned to his clubs pre-season tour of America after originally been given special permission to leave in order to attend the birth of his child.

United slipped to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool in Michigan last night, with the Red Devils Portuguese coach insisting afterwards that Martial – who has already asked to leave the club this summer – should have made himself available for selection.

“Anthony Martial has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here,” The 55-year-old manager said in his post match press conference.

Mourinho has been without many of his star players so far during their pre-season preparations due to their involvement in the latter stages of the World Cup in Russia, and he revealed afterwards that he is worried about what condition those players will be in ahead of his sides Premier League opener against Leicester City on August 10.

“Now we have Real Madrid and after that we have Bayern Munich and that’s our start,” He added.

“I just hope the boys on deserved holidays, they take care of themselves a little bit and somebody wants to do what Rashford and Jones do, which is to be back a little bit earlier to try and help the team because, for the beginning of the season, we’re going to be in trouble.”
