Jose Mourinho has reiterated his claims from last week that David de Gea wants to stay at Manchester United.
It has long been thought that De Gea is happy in Manchester and is keen to tie his future down to the club.
However, he has so far failed to put pen to paper on a new contract at Old Trafford, with European heavyweights PSG and Juventus sniffing around the Spain international.
Manchester United have triggered a clause in De Gea’s contract which has extended his deal by a further 12 months, keeping him at the club until 2020.
That prevents United losing their four time player of the year for free next summer, but speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton, Jose Mourinho has once again insisted that he believes his number one wants to stay at the club.
“Manchester United need the best players in the world. The board want him to stay. Manager wants him to stay. He wants to stay,” Mourinho told the press ahead of his sides away game against Southampton tomorrow.
“His agent will let him think and decide himself. The only point is to agree the contract. My feeling is that it will finish well.”
It is thought that De Gea is looking to rake in a cool £350,000-a-week.
