Mourinho: ‘Alexis Sanchez is not playing well enough’

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez was dropped for today’s game against West Ham, saying he ‘is not playing well enough.’

Sanchez has been widely criticised for his performances since moving to Manchester United from Arsenal last January, scoring just three goals for the Red Devils in that time. Despite his poor form though, he has always seemed to get back into the United side.

However, despite making the trip to London with his teammates, the Chilean was the big name absentee for United, not even being named on the bench for United’s game against West Ham, with Anthony Martial being rewarded with his place in the starting line-up.

There were question marks to why Sanchez was left out, but speaking after the game, Mourinho confirmed it was due to his poor performances of late:

“Look, for how many months people are asking for Martial and Alexis Sanchez is not playing well enough so this week it was time for me to agree so I picked Martial and left Alexis out,” the Portuguese told BT Sport.

United slipped to their third defeat of the Premier League campaign, losing 3-1 to a hugely superior Hammers side at the London Stadium, condemning United to their worst start to a season in the Premier League era.
