Mourinho admits United lacked ‘fluidity’ during West Brom defeat

A 73rd minute Jay Rodriguez header saw Manchester United slip to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Premier League basement boys West Brom at Old Trafford today.

This was one of the worst displays of Jose Mourinho’s reign, with the Red Devils putting in a shocking performance devoid of intensity or attacking invention.

Speaking after the game the United’s Portuguese coach admitted his team were nowhere near good enough

“We were masters in complication, everything was complicated,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“We didn’t want or played simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn. There was no fluidity. We did not deserve to lose, we gave them opportunity to win the match.”

Although this performance was particularly bad, many Red Devils fans will point out that this type of turgid display has been commonplace this season.

Mourinho has been heavily criticised this season for failing to get the best out of the huge array of attacking talent he has at his disposal and based on todays evidence many of the critics certainly have a point.

United will face Spurs next weekend in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and they will have to massively improve if they are to have any chance of overcoming Mauricio Pochettino’s men and reaching the final in May.
