Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric doesn’t believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is about to quit the Bernabeu, saying ‘I think he’s going to stay.’
The Portuguese phenomenon, who is Los Blancos’ all time leading goalscorer with an incredible 451 goals, has been linked with an £88 million move to Juventus over the last week.
It has been rumoured that he has already completed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Italian champions, with a deal for the former Manchester United winger thought to be edging closer.
However, former Spurs midfielder and Ronaldo’s current teammate in Madrid, Luka Modric, has admitted he doesn’t believe the rumours.
“Let’s see what happens,” he told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I don’t think he’s going to go and I would like him to stay because he’s the best player in the world. He means a lot and hopefully he will stay.”
“I think he’s going to stay, that’s my opinion,” he added.
“It would be very good if he stayed because I can’t imagine him in any other European team.”
Modric was speaking after his Croatia side booked their place in the World Cup semi finals after beating Russia on penalties. They will of course come up against Gareth Southgate’s England side, who comfortably dispatched Sweden on Saturday.
