Mo Salah breaks Premier League record with latest Liverpool goal

Mo Salah has added another Premier League record to his list of accomplishments following his latest goal for Liverpool.

The Egyptian winger found the target for the Reds in their opening weekend clash with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday, doubling his side’s lead in the 65th minute.

It continues the 32-year-old’s remarkable run of goal involvements in the first game of a campaign, taking his tally to 14 contributions in seven such fixtures.

Salah has never failed to score on the opening day for Liverpool, netting in six of those matches, with his only blank coming against Chelsea last year, although he did provide an assist in a 1-1 draw.

His most recent strike means he has scored nine goals in the opening game of a new season, more than any other player in Premier League history.

Salah overtakes such luminaries as Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer and Frank Lampard, who previously shared the record on eight goals.

“Hopefully I keep going like this for the whole season! I always help to try to help the team all the time, I’m always happy to score goals or assist,” he told TNT Sports after the full-time whistle.

No stranger to top-flight records, Salah has scored more goals overall for Liverpool than any other player in the Premier League era, with his impressive tally now sitting at 156.

He also became the first player in Premier League history to register both 10+ goals and 10+ assists in three consecutive seasons in May.
