‘No reason’ Mo Salah can’t emulate Messi and Ronaldo’s longevity

Mo Salah can maintain his extraordinary levels of performance like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have done, according to Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

The Egyptian winger continues to be the club’s best player at the age of 32, contributing nine goals and seven assists in 15 appearances this season.

Although Messi and Ronaldo are now competing in MLS and the Saudi Pro League respectively, the pair maintained incredibly high standards in their play well into their careers.

Slot believes Salah is as good as he has ever been, comparing him to two of the greatest to have ever played the game.

Mo Salah backed to emulate Messi and Ronaldo’s longevity

“There’s no reason at the moment to think he is dropping in terms of his level,” the Liverpool manager said ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter with Bayer Leverkusen.

“That’s not what you see when you look at his numbers or what you see when he plays. I don’t know how to say this in English, but I cannot tell you how the future will look like.

“What age is Cristiano Ronaldo at the moment? He’s still doing well. Lionel Messi is still incredible.”

He jokingly added: “But there are also players, like me, who weren’t as good when they were 33 than when they were 26. I regressed a bit earlier than Ronaldo and Messi.

“I don’t know what the future brings but I do know Mo is in a very good place.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot responds to Mo Salah post

Speculation over Salah’s future increased this week after he posted a cryptic message on social media, which included the line: “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.” The player’s contract runs out next summer.

Slot said: “I’m hoping he will post after tomorrow and on Saturday again. The only thing that is important for me is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations. That’s what matters and not how you guys [reporters] interpret one of his posts.”
