Saudi side plot mega £206m Mohamed Salah transfer swoop

Liverpool forward Mo Salah has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as the Gulf state continues to spend big in the transfer market.

Al-Ittihad have entered into ‘serious negotiations’ with Salah over a potential deal, according to Arriyadiyah.

A source close to the publication says that an ‘attractive’ offer must be put on the table to tempt the Egyptian star from Liverpool.

The numbers in the report certainly suggest that will be the case. The Jeddah outfit are willing to pay Salah €180 million (£155m) in wages over two years, on top of a €60m (£51m) transfer fee to Liverpool.

Mo Salah signed a new contract with the Reds last year, tying him to the club until 2025. It is believed he is earning over £18m a year on his current deal.

Although Liverpool ended last season trophyless and missed out on qualification for the Uefa Champions League for the first time in five years, Salah still put up big numbers, registering 19 goals and 12 assists in the Premier League.

Liverpool have already sold two of their first team players to clubs from the Saudi Pro League, with Fabinho joining Al-Ittihad for £40m, while Jordan Henderson signed for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq for £12m.

Al-Ittihad, who are managed by former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, have also signed Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante on free transfers from Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively.
