Arteta delighted with ‘dominant’ Arsenal win at Everton

Mikel Arteta said the scoreline should ‘probably have been bigger’ after watching Arsenal secure a 1-0 win at Everton.

Arsenal ended their poor recent record at Everton to secure a win at Goodison Park, with Leandro Trossard scoring a superb second-half goal to earn the Gunners three points.

Arsenal dominated the ball throughout and saw a Gabriel Martinelli goal disallowed for offside, before Trossard struck with a side-foot finish to secure Arsenal’s first win at Everton since 2017.

Arteta was delighted with the performance from his side as Arsenal maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign and believes his side should have created a more emphatic scoreline.

“It was a long time without a win here. We played a great game, we didn’t give anything away,” he told BBC Sport.

“We dominated the game and created numerous chances. The score should probably have been bigger.

“I really enjoyed this. Against Manchester United, I saw my face after and it was a bit of relief. This was enjoyment.

“The 11 players played really well. We had numerous chances, we were patient and Leandro produced an incredible finish to win the game.”

Arsenal’s goal came from a clever short corner routine, a tactic the Gunners used on several occasions, and Arteta said the move was part of a game plan to mix up his side’s attack.

“We have to keep finding different weapons to win games. We win a lot of corners and we have to maximise that, for sure.”
