Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has urged his club’s hierarchy to ditch plans to sign Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba and instead bring Chelsea star Marcos Alonso to the Nou Camp this summer.
Austrian international Alaba has long been considered to be one of the finest full backs in European football, and he has been heavily linked with a move to the La Liga leaders recently.
However, with his club Bayern are expected to demand a astronomical transfer fee for the talented defender, the Express are reporting that Barcelona’s main man Lionel Messi has instructed his club to move for Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso instead.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has been a revelation since moving to Stamford Bridge from Fiorentina for £24 million. Alonso has proven himself to be equally adept in both attack and defensive over the last couple of seasons, and was an integral part of Chelsea’s 2016/2017 Premier League winning side.
The talented left-back was hugely impressive during his sides Champions League fixtures against Barca recently, and has family links to the club with his father having represented the Blaugrana in the 1980’s.
Alonso is yet to be capped by Spain at senior level, and may well see a move back to La Liga as the best way to force his way into his national team’s squad.
