Paul Merson has urged on-loan Tammy Abraham to stay with Aston Villa despite interest from the Premier League.

The Chelsea youngster has shone since arriving at Villa Park on a season-long loan deal in the summer, scoring 16 Championship goals for Dean Smith’s side.

The forward’s form has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs including Huddersfield and Crystal Palace, whilst Wolves are reported to be keen on taking Abraham to Molineux on a permanent basis.

Sky Sports pundit Merson, who played for Villa between 1998-2002, believes the 21-year-old should remain with the Midlands outfit.

“Abraham played in the Premier League last season, he scored five goals in 31 football matches for Swansea,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Stay out on loan at the moment, he’s playing at a top club, probably one of the biggest in the Championship. Stay there, get some more goals. If I was him, I would stay at Villa.”

Abraham scored twice in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers, the result leaving Villa 10th in the Championship, five points adrift of the play-off places.
