Manchester United flop Memphis Depay interested in Man City or Chelsea move

Manchester United flop Memphis Depay has big ambitions, saying he wants to play for one of the big clubs of European football.

Depay moved to Manchester United in 2015 having been the top goalscorer in the Eredivisie in the previous season, although he was unable to replicate that form at Old Trafford, scoring just seven goals in 53 appearances, before being shipped out to Lyon in January 2017.

However, since his move to Ligue 1, he has rediscovered his form, netting 22 goals for Les Gones last season and a further six in the current campaign.

While the 24-year-old is focused on doing well for Lyon for the time being, he has admitted that he is already looking at moving to a top European club, naming Manchester United’s rivals Man City and Chelsea as two potential destinations.

“Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe,” Depay told Helden magazine. “I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich…”

“I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football.

“I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold. But I’m focused right now on Lyon, and then we see where I end up.”

It is believed that Manchester United have first refusal on their former number 7 after they included a buy-back clause in the deal that took him to the Groupama Stadium.
