Matthijs de Ligt future at Bayern uncertain

Matthijs de Ligt’s future at Bayern Munich is uncertain with the defender having fallen out of favour.

De Ligt has started just eight times in the Bundesliga this season due to fitness and favour issues and was an unnused substitute for Bayern’s 3-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

The 24-year-old was left out of the crucial clash with the club’s title rivals, with January signing Eric Dier preferred in central defence.

De Ligt insisted he was fully fit for the clash in comments made to BILD and Fabrizio Romano has said the Dutch defender is ‘one to watch’ ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bayern signed Kim Min-jae from Napoli in the summer and the arrival of the South Korean has pushed De Ligt down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.

A host of Premier League clubs have been tentatively linked with signing De Ligt, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool expected to be in the market for centre-backs in the summer window.

De Ligt was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season as Bayern won the title last season, having initially impressed following his move from Juventus for an initial fee of €67m.
