Matic: Manchester United will ‘give our best’ to finish in top four

The Serbian midfielder believes the Red Devils have the quality to qualify for the Champions League.

Just a month ago it seemed implausible that Manchester United could come anywhere close to finishing in the top four of the Premier League, languishing closer to mid-table than they were to Manchester City or Liverpool.

Yet under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the team have experienced a resurgence, winning six games on the trot and are just three points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Nemanja Matic says United are very much in the race for Champions League qualification if they continue to win like they did on Saturday.

“In the Premier League, it’s always hard,” Matic told MUTV after his side’s hard fought 2-1 win over Brighton last Saturday at Old Trafford.

“You cannot be sure you are always in control, especially against this team – they are very strong at set pieces, they have two big guys on that, and they try to use them.

“We knew it, we saw some of their games which were enough to show they can hurt us. But, as I said, we managed to control and to win.

“I’m happy for one more win, happy for our team and our supporters. We will try to give our best to reach the top four until the end of the season.

“The teams in front of us have quality, they will also try to play in the Champions League next season. But I’m sure that we have enough qualities to compete with them.
