Martial ready to stay at Manchester United

With the future of Jose Mourinho looking ever more uncertain with each passing newspaper article, Anthony Martial is thought to be ready to stay at Old Trafford for at least another 12 months.

Martial is known to have wanted to quit Manchester United this summer after failing to convince Mourinho of his quality and consistency, as well as not getting enough game time as he desires.

He started last season in fine fettle, having seemingly finally started to prove his worth to the Portuguese boss, however the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez saw him relegated to an almost permanent fixture on the United bench and looking to seek an exit.

Despite the Frenchman’s desire to leave, and Jose Mourinho’s desire to sell, Manchester United’s hierarchy were unwilling to cash in on a player that they have invested over £50 million and who has a clear and obvious talent, and especially not to a Premier League rival.

However, according to the Sunday Telegraph, the 22-year-old has been heartened by the faith shown in him by the Man Utd board, and is willing to stay for a further 12 months to see what happens with Jose Mourinho’s own future.

Zinedine Zidane has been linked with being Mourinho’s successor, and the chance to work with a French legend is said to be an interesting prospect. Mauricio Pochettino is also thought to be a fan of the 22-year-old, with Spurs one of the clubs interested in signing him, and the Argentine is also one of the favourites to replace Mourinho at United
