Anthony Martial has denied that he has a tense relationship with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho following his two-goal heroics this weekend.
Martial is one of just a number of Manchester United players who is said to have had a fractured relationship with Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s two-and-a-bit year tenure at Old Trafford, as the young Frenchman seemed to struggle to initially adapt to Mourinho’s pragmatic style of play.
With Alexis Sanchez having struggled to find any form at United whatsoever, Martial has been offered some opportunities to impress in recent weeks, and he has grabbed them with both hands. He was an integral part of Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Newcastle, where he scored one of the goals, before scoring two beautiful goals in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea at the weekend.
Next up for United is a tough game against Juventus on Tuesday night, and speaking ahead of that game, Martial was asked about his relationship with his manager:
“Come on – things were not tense between us to begin with!
“We have a player-coach relationship and I hope that we will continue like that and bring Manchester United as much [success] as possible.
“For sure, we were not doing well. However, we worked hard and this sort of match (against Chelsea) enabled us to show that we are a good team.
“We want to continue with another good game against Juventus on Tuesday.”
