Maresca: Man City will win appeal against Premier League breaches

The Italian coach says he completely trusts the club following the verdict.

Enzo Maresca is adamant that Manchester City will be successful in their appeal against the independent commission’s decision to find them all guilty of breaching the Premier League’s rules.

The commission found that City committed 114 breaches related to financial regulations and their failure to cooperate with the investigation.

City lodged their appeal last week, stating that the judgement “contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe”.

Maresca: Man City will win appeal against Premier League breaches

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to Liverpool, Maresca told his pre-match press conference “I totally trust the club” and is convinced they will win their appeal.

“I understand the reason why most of you are here, but the only thing that I can say is what I said already,” he said. “That the reason I joined this club is that I completely trust, 100 per cent, the owner, the CEO, the sporting director, all the organisation. So I don’t have doubt about that.

“We all trust, and probably the right moment to speak about that is when we are going to win this appeal.”

Asked if City’s achievements under Pep Guardiola look any different now, Maresca answered: “Absolutely not. The last time I was here was the treble season. I know the effort from the players, from the club, from the manager in that time, that was Pep. So I know exactly the effort that the club put to achieve that kind of target. So I don’t have any doubt about that.”

City are expected to face a febrile atmosphere when they take to the pitch at Anfield this weekend, but Maresca says he is no more worried about that than he would be for any other Premier League match.

“If you ask the guys that are here I’m always concerned, not just Liverpool, I will also be concerned about Ipswich. I know that Anfield is a nice pitch, probably will even more warm in terms of environment but the reason I decide to become manager is for this kind of game.”
