Aston Villa are being linked with an ambitious move to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.
Villa’s ambitious owners are preparing to invest significantly in the squad this summer, following an impressive run of performances under Unai Emery.
Villa are expected to appoint Mateu Alemany as the club’s new sporting director, with the 60-year-old set to leave his role at Barcelona at the end of the season.
Alemany wants to add several signings as Villa look to compete for a place in Europe next season and Marca are reporting that Asensio is on the club’s list of transfer targets.
The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and discussions over a new deal have failed to find an agreement.
The winger struggled for opportunities across the first half of the season, but has impressed when called upon in recent months and Real Madrid are keen for Asensio to sign a new contract.
Villa are reportedly prepared to offer Asensio an improved deal worth around €8m per season and a prominent part in their project, in a bid to tempt the Spain international to the Premier League.
Asensio has shone when called upon this season and has 11 goals and seven assists in just 16 starts across all competitions.
