Sadio Mane has revealed that Liverpool are being motivated by last season’s run to the Champions League final.
Last season, a Mohamed Salah inspired Liverpool were arguably one of the best footballing sides in Europe, scoring 84 goals in the league, in a season where they would finish fourth.
Despite being the only side to have the measure of eventual Premier League champions Man City, beating them three times in four matches, Jurgen Klopp’s men were unable to get their hands on any silverware, succumbing to defeat to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League in Kiev.
However, this season’s top scorer Sadio Mane has revealed that the Reds are utilising that disappointment as a motivation to go one better this time round.
“It was a great season,” Mane told BBC Sport. “Sadly, we didn’t win something but for this season it is motivation for us, to repeat it and try to go for it, and win it.”
Klopp’s side play Watford away in the Premier League before travelling to Paris to face big-spending French champions PSG in their Champions League group game, with both sides still aiming to progress to the knockout stages.
