Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is set to be offered a bumper new deal at Old Trafford following his FA Cup heroics just eight weeks ago.

Talks over a new deal for Lingard began months ago, but were put on hold following the departure of Louis van Gaal, who had given Lingard his breakthrough at Old Trafford last season.

United clinched their first FA Cup triumph in twelve years after Lingard smashed an extra time winner to send the travelling fans into raptures, and is now set to sign a £40,000-a-week deal.

The talks between the player and the club stalled whilst the Manchester United managerial situation was clarified, and new boss Jose Mourinho has given the green light to reward the 22-year old with a new deal.

Lingard started yesterday’s pre-season friendly victory over Wigan, where he put in an impressive display in Mourinho’s first game in charge.
