Manchester United travel to face FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday evening, with Erik ten Hag’s team in need of a response to recent results.
A dismal defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend has increased the pressure on Ten Hag’s position. The Red Devils sit 12th in the Premier League table after six games, have a minus goal difference, and opened their European campaign with a disappointing draw at home to FC Twente.
United have won just one of their previous four trips to Porto, who have started the Primeira Liga season in good form. Now under the management of Vitor Bruno, Porto sit second in the table with only defeat to leaders Sporting Lisbon blemishing an otherwise perfect league record.

Manchester United have received a boost ahead of the trip to the Estádio do Dragão with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire having trained ahead of the clash. Mainoo was substituted before half-time during the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend but has recovered in time to be available for Porto. Maguire has also trained this week and could come in at centre-back to strengthen a defence cut apart by Spurs on Sunday.
Leny Yoro (foot) and Luke Shaw (calf) remain sidelined for the Red Devils, while Casemiro could be recalled in central midfield to face his former side. Diogo Dalot could also line up against his old employers.

Ten Hag could use the clash as a chance to increase Rasmus Hojlund’s minutes. United have struggled for cutting edge in the absence of last season’s leading scorer. Hojlund sustained a hamstring injury in pre-season that delayed his start to the campaign but is back and available for selection.
