Ruben Amorim begins his reign as Manchester United manager this weekend, as the Red Devils take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
There will be a sense of intrigue and optimism around Manchester United on Sunday, when Amorim leads the side for the first time. The 39-year-old has arrived with a growing reputation from Sporting Lisbon, where he led the capital club to two Primeira Liga titles during his four-and-a-half year spell.
Amorim has been clear in his intention to stick with his tried and tested system, a formation which will represent change for United. Sunday’s clash will be a fascinating first view of Amorim’s plan in action.
Manchester United XI vs Ipswich – Predicted lineup and team news
Manchester United team news
Manchester United could be boosted by the returns of Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro, each of whom took part in Amorim’s first week of training.
Shaw’s return will be a huge positive given his suitability to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and the new manager has praised the full-back this week. However, Shaw’s concerning injury record means it’s unlikely he will be thrust immediately back into the side. Shaw has not made a Premier League appearance this season.
Yoro improves a centre-back pool depleted at present, having recovered from a broken foot sustained in pre-season. The Frenchman is pushing for his Manchester United debut after signing from Lille in the summer. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez are all doubts for the trip to Portman Road and will be assessed.
