Manchester United can move to two wins from three opening games when they travel to Everton on Sunday.
Michael Carrick’s side sit tenth in the table after recovering from an opening-day defeat at Hull City with a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town. Sunday is the 20th Premier League game of Carrick’s second spell in charge of United, a period in which no side has won more points (42) than the Red Devils.
Victory would take him to 45 points from those 20 games, a tally matched by only four other managers in the competition’s history: Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte at Chelsea, John Gregory at Aston Villa, and Arne Slot at Liverpool.

Carlos Baleba, United’s summer signing, remains sidelined with an ankle injury that will keep him out for a couple more weeks, while Manuel Ugarte (knee) and Amad Diallo (ankle) are also long-term absentees. Tom Heaton and Matthijs de Ligt are both doubts, with de Ligt continuing to build up his training load following a long-term back issue.
There is better news on Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, both of whom are back in full training and available for selection. Carrick confirmed Mount’s return personally: “Mase is back around the group, which was great. Trained this week, so that’s a big positive for us.”
Bruno Fernandes, who scored a hat-trick against Ipswich to take his season tally to three goals — more than any other player in the division so far this season — is expected to continue behind Matheus Cunha, with Marcus Rashford and Bryan Mbeumo completing the front line.
