Manchester United are interested in signing England u-21 internationals Adam Wharton and Hayden Hackney as the club look to strengthen in midfield.
The emerging duo have been placed on a shortlist of names under consideration at Old Trafford, with Wharton’s rapid rise at Crystal Palace having caught the eye.
An £18m arrival from Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window, Wharton’s impressive adaptation to the Premier League saw him included in the England squad for Euro 2024.
The 20-year-old made his England debut against Bosnia in June before dropping into the u-21 squad for this month’s international break.
Wharton’s effortless adaptation from the Championship to Premier League has alerted several top clubs and Spanish outlet Fichajes have claimed Manchester United are in the running to bring the midfielder back to the North West.
Middlesbrough midfielder also on Manchester United radar
Erik ten Hag’s team are also tracking the progress of Middlesbrough midfielder Hackney, who has shone under the guidance of ex-Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick at the Riverside.
The 22-year-old was named Middlesbrough Young Player of the Year after a breakthrough season in 2022/23 and has since made 70 senior appearances for the club. Hackney has won five caps for England at u-21 level since his debut in 2023.
