Mesut Özil for Arsenal

Manchester United to sign World Cup winner?

Manchester United are to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil, according to the player himself.

This is the claim in the Daily Mirror who lead with the story of that Özil has told his Arsenal team mates that he plans on moving to Old Trafford in the coming months.

Özil is of course out of contract in just over eight months, and has reportedly been demanding a £350,000-a-week pay packet in order to get him to stay at the Emirates. That kind of figure would shatter the club’s strict wage structure and make him one of the highest paid footballers in the Premier League.

Reports last week suggested that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was ready to give up on the German international, and cash in on him in the upcoming January transfer window.

The biggest problem for Wenger is lack of interest in the playmaker due to his poor form and workrate. Inter Milan are the only club to have publicly declared their interest, but would struggle to pay his exorbitant wage demands.

Jose Mourinho is known to be a fan of the 28-year-old after the pair enjoyed a successful three year spell together at Real Madrid before both going their separate ways. However with reports that Özil is confident he is moving to Old Trafford soon, perhaps it is an indication that the Portuguese believe he is able to get the best out of the player once again.
