Manchester United will demand a record fee for Anthony Martial if he is to leave the club this summer.
Martial moved to Old Trafford back in 2015 as a relative unknown quantity for an initial £36 million, but made an instant impact, scoring a sensational solo goal on his debut – against Liverpool no less.
He would go on to be Manchester United’s top scorer in his first campaign at the club, but the arrival of Jose Mourinho has seen the Frenchman’s fortunes diminish.
He struggled for game time in the Portuguese’s first season at the club, but looked like he was returning to form in Mourinho’s second season, only to be resigned back to the bench following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
The 22-year-old’s agent has recently revealed that his client wants to quit Red Devil’s after he missed out on a place in the France World Cup squad, although subsequent reports have suggested that United are reluctant to let him leave.
While United only paid £36 million initially to sign Martial, they have actually shelled out almost £50m on the French ace due to adds ons, and they want to make a profit on that outlay.
However if they were were to sell to one of their domestic rivals, The Sun claims that they would demand a British record fee of around £100 million.
United are still hoping that they can tie the Frenchman down to a new contract, with fears that he could come back to haunt them in the future.
His current deal still has two years to run.
