Manchester United turned down the chance to sign David Raum from RB Leipzig over concerns over the long-term value of the deal.
Raum was a reported transfer target for the Red Devils as the club sought to bring in competition and cover for Luke Shaw. The Germany international excelled in the Bundesliga last term, with three goals and seven assists as Leipzig secured Champions League qualification.
However, ESPN are reporting that United’s decision-makers had reservations due to Raum’s age. United were reluctant to spend £30m on a 28-year-old and hand Raum a long-term contract, deeming it ‘potentially disruptive for the next stage of transfer business’.
After focusing on midfield signings during the 2026 summer window, United are planning to overhaul their defence next summer. Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are all out of contract in 2027, while Matthijs de Ligt has struggled with injury issues of late.
Decisions will also be made on the futures of Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot, with a right-back understood to be high on the priority list.
