Manchester United have emerged as shock favourites to sign Chelsea captain Gary Cahill this summer.
It is no secret that Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his central defensive options, and according the Daily Star today, the Old Trafford outfit are now favourites with the bookmakers to secure the England international’s signature should he decide to leave, having previously worked United’s Portuguese coach during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Cahill joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers in 2012, and has enjoyed plenty of success, winning the Champions League and two Premier League titles during his time in West London.
After John Terry’s departure from Stamford Bridge last summer, then Blues boss Antonio Conte appointed Cahill as his captain, although he struggled for game time for most of the season.
New Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is reportedly closing in on signing Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani, meaning Cahill is now expected to call time on his six year Chelsea career.
