Manchester United set to enter race for Liverpool target Fekir

Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas has hinted that Manchester United are about to enter the race to sign his clubs highly rated playmaker Nabil Fekir.

France international Fekir was reportedly close to joining Liverpool in a £60 million deal just before the start of the World Cup only for the transfer break down at the last minute.

Jurgen Klopp is now said to have cooled his interest in the 24-year-old midfielder, although outspoken Lyon President Aulas has revealed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is also keen on signing Fekir this summer.

“I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions,” Aulas told beIN Sports.

“Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.

“It was expected at a certain point for him to go to Liverpool. I gave the green light. It did not happen because things were dragged out too long.”

Fekir has been in superb form for Lyon this season, scoring 24 goals and providing nine assists in 40 appearances, with his excellent showings helping to force his way into Didier Deschamps France squad for this summers World Cup in Russia, where he has featured in both his Country’s opening two fixtures.
