Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has likened Mason Greenwood to Cristiano Ronaldo following the youngster’s latest impressive showing in the club’s 4-1 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.
The teenage star started alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in attack for the victory over the Magpies at Old Trafford, with each of the forwards on target as Manchester United bounced back from defeat at Watford last time out to move within four points of the Champions League places.
Greenwood continued his fine form in recent weeks by netting his eighth goal of the season in all competitions with a powerful, deflected effort from distance, and Solskjaer has lavished praise on the 18-year-old comparing his ‘exceptional’ finishing to that of former United superstar Ronaldo.
“There is not too many I can remember like him who has every single technique. He’s not just 50-50 with both feet but probably 60-60!” Solskjaer said.
“Cristiano can score just as many with his left and they are proper strikes. But Mason can curl the ball with both feet, he is an exceptional finisher.
“He has got the lot. He’s young and has got a lot to learn, he knows that. He needs to head the ball like Marcus Rashford can.
“I don’t think we are going to see the best of Mason for a couple of years. But I can remember when I was 18 but I was nowhere near the level playing at he was.“
United will look to continue their push for the top four when they face Burnley this weekend, Solskjaer’s side travelling for Turf Moor to face the Clarets in Saturday’s late kick-off.
